Clever Island

Clever Island, the project we started in the spring of 2024, is a chain of rural community libraries in various villages, 11, across the island of Hvar, Croatia.

Process of library building starts with the installation of a mini book exchange library, a specially designed box, we place on main village square or some similar fitting location.

Next phase is installation of pomalo'clock, a web application we made in 2016, few years after settling on the island.

Name “pomalo” comes from local description of the lifestyle. Pomalo, slowly, bit by bit, what you can do today do it tomorrow, or never. (possibly inter-Mediterranean, piano'clock in Italy, pocoapoco'clock in Spain…).

Default speed for the island of Hvar is 33% of the conventional time speed.
After scanning QR code, via slider you can adjust time speed of your present desire. From 0% to 99%.

Wooden Website is the third part completing the initial triptych.

QR code stickers are leading to free books downloads, reading…

Everybody else, locals and visitors, is free to stick links to their own works, books etc.

On few locations (see Vrboska, Stari Grad…) new art works appeared, starting new phase, that still has no name yet, but there is a good chance that around library, the small art galleries will appear.

Clever Island tryptich combines analogue books world and, via QR stickers, digital world, all connected by slower lifestyle presented via simple web application.

Clever Island is a work in progress, there is another 11 remote villages on the island, final number of the library web will be one day 22. Present 11 libraries are in differend stages of development, as during the first year we had a need to observe and correct, add and addapt the content.
Clever Island becomes common denominator and unifier, therefore identical visual style to start with.

ArtfarmP2

Since 2013, when we bought 1500 m² of land and a small stone house, ArtfarmP2 has been our cosmopolitan location, combining art, activism and organic agriculture on the Croatian island of Hvar.

While avoiding – as much as possible – the existance of capitalism as such, creating "a new place in non-place".

("learning to be nobody while mapping the country yet to come").
